Hanover House consists of five buildings arranged around a ‘village green’ and joined with walls that are at least three metres high. There are a total of six wards comprising of two medium secure wards and four low secure wards.
The two medium secure wards are independent of each other and have been carefully designed to ensure that patients can access all the necessary facilities within the ward environment. In addition to the communal living areas and individual bedrooms, the wards offer a range of group therapy rooms, rehabilitation kitchen, gym, IT and education rooms.
Each ward has its own secure external, landscaped garden.
Should it be required, the hospital has a seclusion suite, which complies with the Medium Secure Guidelines, together with a dedicated secure outside area. The hospital also has an Enhanced Care suite, which again has its own dedicated, secure outside area.

Each low secure ward has a range of communal living space including lounge(s), quiet room, kitchenette(s), laundry and activity room with the expectation that patients will be able to go off the ward to access therapeutic, recreation and social activities.
